Finding a Job in Teaching

This section offers advice and tips on how to go about looking for a job in teaching. There are also plenty of links to the right of the screen that will help you find work in teaching and education, including a range of job search websites.

The Paper

Teaching jobs are advertised in the following:

  • Local newspapers
  • Friday’s Times Educational Supplement
  • Tuesday’s Educational Guardian
  • Thursday’s Independent

Local Schools and Authorities

You can also contact local schools and your local authority to find out about future vacancies on schoolsfinder.direct.gov.uk.

Local authorities often use their websites to advertise vacancies.  You can find your local authority on the TDA website.

The Schools Recruitment Service

This online service puts schools and jobseekers directly in touch with each other and streamlines the application process.  You can create your personalised account and talent profile on the site.  This will enable schools to use what you’ve entered in your profile to search for the right candidate.

Schools and local authorities will post vacancies on the site that you apply for online.  And, because you’ve already uploaded your CV, parts of the online application form will auto-generate – leaving you to concentrate on tailoring your personal statement specific to the school.  To join, visit schoolsrecruitment.dcsf.gov.uk.
