Telephone interviews may be used in order to perform the initial screening of candidates. By contacting you over the phone, the company saves money on travelling expenses and also gets to find out exactly how good your communication skills are.
Some employers also use the telephone to deliver personality questionnaires, where candidates press a button on the telephone keypad in order to express whether they agree or disagree about certain statements. More information on personality questionnaires can be found in section 11.
