In a four part symposium, chaired by Jocelyn Wishart and introduced by Jean Murray (ESCalate), the following speakers will offer a short presentation followed by questions from the floor and discussion.
Gerald Devlin - General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland
Professor Ian Menter – University of Glasgow, Scotland
Professor John Parkinson - Swansea Metropolitan University, Wales
Professor Joan Whitehead - University of West of England
The four presenters from the national jurisdictions of the UK will set out what they see as the likely impact on teacher education following policy changes by the coalition government, after their first six months in office.
With probable cuts in education resources and with education bills widely tipped to be among the first pieces of legislation tabled by the new government, there are likely to be challenging times ahead for teacher educators, students, teachers and education institutions.
UCET and ESCalate play significant roles in teacher education in the UK, by listening to the voice of practitioners and by helping to mediate policy changes within the sector.
