Building on the success of last year, we are holding our second Student Conference at The University of Glamorgan on Friday 16th April 2010.

This is an event for staff and students (undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral) working in all fields of education.

We are lucky enough to have Aaron Porter, Vice-President of the NUS (Higher Education) delivering the keynote speech on The Importance of the Learner Voice in 21st Century Higher Education.

Can you remember a time when students were simply passive receivers of knowledge and were not encouraged to take an active role in their own learning? Things have changed in recent years as higher education providers recognise the value that student participation and evaluation can bring to the delivery of effective education. Students are now more proactive in the process of teaching and learning and this conference aims to explore the new roles that students currently play.

The conference will therefore focus on issues that relate closely to students as stakeholders in their own education, incorporating themes on (see attached programme):

  • active participation in learning
  • employability
  • student collaboration
  • the impact of new technologies on the learning process

The day promises to be a professionally and personally rewarding one as delegates will have the opportunity to hear students and tutors share their opinions and insights on the key themes outlined above and more.
