Aims for our new funding awards
As part of its mission as the UK Subject Centre for Education, ESCalate has a policy of offering a wide range of funding awards to support students and staff in Education Departments:
- To share ideas and practices more widely to support scholarly activity within the sector.
- To promote the development of ideas, resources, practice and theory in ways that support teaching and learning and promote the student learning experience.
- To ensure as wide as possible engagement across the regions of the UK and the Education sector (to include publicly funded universities and Further Education Colleges providing HE programmes in Education including vocational and non-vocational courses).
- To provide a means by which staff in Education Departments can continue their professional development and scholarly activity in keeping with the basic principles of universities as places of learning.
Main aims
- A deliberate policy of requiring applicants for the largest awards to bring together collaborative groups from universities and FE colleges across national boundaries within the UK
- To actively promote colleagues teaching HE in the Further Education sector to apply for funding
- To consult in greater detail with senior staff in the Higher Education Academy to ensure funding awards are relevant to colleagues in all four jurisdictions of the UK
- To provide greater opportunities for students and staff from both vocational - teacher education programmes and non-vocational programmes to make applications for funding
- To look for ways to ensure funding awards can contribute to student skills and employability profiles
- To ensure that funding awards support staff development and scholarly activity
- There are funding awards for eligible students in Education up to £1,000
- For staff in Education Departments there are awards ranging from £50 to £15,000
- Applying is as simple as possible bearing in mind we are using public money
- Applications are made on line by registering with ESCalate
- Large funding award applications are peer-reviewed
- Large funding award applications need to be collaborative across at least two institutions
