Abstract Writing Day

Date(s) Tuesday 6 January 2009
Venue Manchester Metropolitan University, Oxford Road, Manchester City Centre, Room GM338 in the Geoffrey Manton
Organised by ESCalate

ESCalate ITE in collaboration with and sponsored by the University of Cumbria has been running Abstract Writing Days for the past three years for staff at the university. This year, for the first time ESCalate ITE is opening this successful event to the whole teacher education sector. The day is relaxed and supportive; the aim of the day is to provide a haven away from the hurly burly of daily life to give participants a 'time away' to concentrate on turning conference paper ideas into good quality abstracts for submission to upcoming educational conferences, such as:

Conference Abstract submission date
ESCalate ITE conference   January 26th, 2009
BERA conference             January 23rd, 2009

Please note that this list is not exhaustive - any educational conference is relevant. All participants to last year's abstract writing day had their submissions accepted. While we give no guarantees, the day does give substantial time and help which will hopefully lead to acceptance of your work.

If you are new to the world of submitting abstracts we will be particularly delighted to welcome you - the day is designed to be very helpful for inexperienced presenters. There will be opportunities for working individually or in small groups on your abstracts and for peer review of your ideas as well as work with 'critical friends'; you create your own agenda which suits your needs. It is expected that you will bring some copies of an early draft of your ideas or content with you to share in the group sessions and a lap top to use. The day starts with some general hints and discussion around Writing Abstracts for the first hour approximately and then delegates get on with their own work with the opportunity of being able to ask and discuss with colleagues. The cost for delegates to cover rooming and subsistence only is £35.

Numbers are very limited for this event, so please register online and then email the following information to our Administrator at
