5th Annual ESCalate ITE Conference

Date(s) Friday 15 May 2009
Venue Glyndŵr University, Wrexham (formerly NEWI)
Organised by ESCalate

Aims of the Conference

Our conference has become an important date in the calendar of Initial Teacher Education, attracting a very high standard of workshops and presentations from across the UK. We are most grateful to the University of Cumbria for hosting the conference for the last 4 years for us, but this year we are moving to a new venue – Glyndŵr University, Wrexham, North Wales (formerly NEWI). Glyndŵr offers an award winning portfolio of conference facilities and should prove to be an excellent venue for delegates and presenters from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. We hope to welcome a wide range of expertise and interest this year.

The title of our conference this year is ‘Initial Teacher Education - Towards a new era’ and we hope to look forward enthusiastically and positively to the future of teacher education and the teaching profession through this event. ESCalate ITE seeks to enhance the student teacher’s experience by advancing skills in the pedagogy of teacher education. We hope to develop the professional identities of both students and staff and want to foster creativity within a competence – based policy context. We reflect the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education in all our work and we are enthusiastic to learn from comparative practice from the four countries of the UK and from international sources. Particularly important is the impact that our work has on practice and in our conference we hope to encourage delegates to take away good ideas to use in their institutions.

Who is it for?

The conference is aimed at all practitioners working in Initial Teacher Education from the four countries of the UK and all other agencies with a professional interest in teacher education. It could well also resonate with colleagues from the international scene. Our focus is on schools, however, transferable knowledge from other sectors is most welcome.

Call for papers

The call for papers for this year’s conference has now closed. The submissions are currently with the review panel and those who have submitted papers will be notified as soon as possible whether their proposal has been accepted.
