The Professional Doctorate

Date(s) Wednesday 5 December 2007
Venue Southlands College, Roehampton University, Roehampton Lane, London, SW15 5PU
Organised by ESCalate

In a context where there has been much discussion about the changing nature of research degrees, professional doctorates have gained momentum. This in part has been in response to some of the perceived gaps in traditional research degrees. Their appeal to experienced education professionals has been that they embrace professional expertise within higher level study and extend knowledge within the field developing higher level skills to tackle practice challenges.

Despite their success however, there is an inference that more coursework and less research must be lesser quality (Parkes, 2007).

This day conference, at Southlands College, will explore the changing context surrounding the professional doctorate and through workshop activities provide opportunities to share perspectives.
