The research intends to highlight the role of which society plays in creating definitions of gift and talent, therefore making the terms narrow, and largely inaccurate social constructs. This research looks at the extent to which we as teachers restrict our identification of individuals with higher ability due to our narrow understandings. As a consequence, this impedes our recognition of ability and potential in the classroom. the broad focus will be to look at how society frames definitions of gift and talent. The specific focus will then be to examine how musical gift and talent are defined. The project aims to provide teachers with information to assist supporting pupils with gift and talent. Although the research will have a focus on music education, the general scope can be utilised by teachers in many subject areas
