Description
An overview of the submissions for the essay competition held by the Subject Centre of Education (ESCalate) as part of the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre Network Student Award reveals a fascinating variety of answers to the question:
“How does your experience of your course compare with any expectations that you have had?”
The winner and runners up of the education element of the competition have their essays published by ESCalate. However, all the essays have their own merit and character. Although the material rewards are worth winning–cash prizes, and for the overall winner, a laptop–for the entrants, the essay title touched a personal chord. There was a distinct impression of the importance to the writers both of illuminating their experiences for themselves, and of sharing their personal discoveries with others.
