This proposal builds upon work undertaken by three institutions - Chester College, Edge Hill College and the Mersey Deanery for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education - in designing and supporting an online CPD programme in teaching and learning facilitation in Clinical Practice for a multi-professional group of Health Service practitioners. It seeks to collate the experience of designing opportunities for interaction into an online programme, with the lessons drawn from an evaluation of the programme, and the subsequent modifications to the design which were made to strengthen the interaction which occurred.
The proposal seeks to develop and share "good practice" guidelines which focus on ways in which interaction can be promoted and enhanced in online CPD programmes. The techniques used will be explored to assess their transferability to other programmes of CPD and undergraduate education in Education Studies; and they will be related to the growing literature on interaction in online programmes, and the development of online learning communities.
